Ed. note: I copied this topic from the Music Room so we can discuss the party next year separately from this year's salute on Sept. 7th.

First, how are we marking the 10th anniversary? Retell our stories of how we heard, do the usual toast? Lucy?

Second, let's set the date for next year's Zevonathonapalooza. This way, everyone can make their arrangements in advance. The last weekend in June is usually Greg's company's summer party, so that's not ideal for us (although not a deal killer, if it's best for everyone else). We could do Fourth of July weekend, if people like that idea. Or pretty much any other time, as long as we set it in advance so Greg can claim the time off. Can we start with people stating a preference for the month, and then working from there for the specific weekend?

Charlene, on the "second thing," it's hard for me to know where I'll be or what I'll be doing a year from now. Life is in quite a state of flux! That being said--and probably, because of that--holiday weekends would work best for me. That way, I might have an instant long weekend and not have to rely on vacation time I might not have accrued yet from a new employer. So that means Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day weekends, if we're sticking to the summer.

On the "first thing": I love our toasts, but should we do something special for the 10th anniversary?

Take good care,

MaryP

It's on a Saturday, so the excuse of "I'm at work" won't cut it for most of us. ;-) And, of course, I'll do *anything* to postpone cleaning litterboxes.

And, yeah, telling WZ stories - how we discovered him in the first place, what we were doing when we heard the Terrible Announcement, etc. And, obviously, how very very much we miss him & any new music he would have created.

I was on my road trip this year for Memorial Day and it was nice - it wasn't so god-awful hot - so an earlier holiday weekend would work for me.

But the 1st Z'palooza was in (or close to) September, wasn't it? (I flew, so I don't have a road trip journal to consult). Perhaps we *should* have the anniversary one closer to the date of the first one.

-- Lucy, happy for any party celebrating WZ.

On the first thing, I will just chime in my bit now: I am always somewhat out of place when I hear people actually mourning for Warren. It is not so much that I am not sad that he died so young (I mean, think of the songs he still could have wrote for one thing), it is just that as someone introduced to his work after his passing his death seems less a terrible aberration (which it certainly was) and more of an end of almost poetic appropriateness. His death to me seems less: how shocking, and more: "well played sir, well played." A truly amazing man.

I'm really sad that I was a tad too young to discover him when he was alive. Even then, I probably couldn't have completely appreciated fully; I'm turning 24 in a few weeks.

To think that if it weren't of my love for Steve Winwood, I might have never heard of the man.

I hope that all of you who knew him have a great time at your next Zevonathonapalooza!

I'm open to any time, except the weekend AFTER July 4th week.
Stories are good. I would like to hear them. I remember reading some on the old board. This board needs them

Last night, I was lying on the couch, with my feet propped up and I turned on the TV. The TV on/off has its own remote; cable has a different remote to change the channels. So I'm lying there, TV remote in hand, when Bosco settles down on my lap. He does that so rarely, I didn't want to disturb him by reaching for the cable remote, so I just left it on NBC.

OMG. What a stupid show! Something about Hollywood & game shows hosted by Jane Lynch. A VERY stupid show, but there was one game I think we could do at Zevonathonapalooza. It's called "How do you doooo?" and the player has to "sing" a song with only the syllable "do." Of course, they had a whole range of songs; we'd zero in on Zevon songs, naturally. Everybody has to guess what the song is. Seems fairly easy to do, with minimal "stuff" required to play.

As I was getting ready for bed, I was do-do-doing "Splendid Isolation." hahaha.

OK - Both Julie & I would like to start planning. Do we have a target date? Now that I'm semi-retired (that's what happens when your job cuts your hours down to 12 hrs a week and the other job only gives you 15 at a much lesser rate of pay, with all of Wednesday and half of Friday off...) it doesn't really matter to me. I'm not *necessary* to either job; I can take off when I want- more than likely, without pay.

My "road trip" this year depends on Z'palooza. If we *don't* have one, I'm going back to West Virginia. If we *do* have one, I'll spend about a week in Philadelphia - I have enough Best Western points to stay across the river in NJ for a while. Not much of a "Road Trip" but it's the city of my birth with a lot of stuff to see.

It doesn't matter when we have it, as long as it's not the 2nd week in July.
Tony needs to know in advance, so he can request the time off.
