Hey everyone :)

I'm Michael, I'm from Scotland. It's a pleasure to be here on this forum with you all. It's like two o'clock in the morning over here right now but when better to introduce myself to you all!

I got into WZ in 2011 thanks to the excitable boy record. I hadn't heard any of his music nor did I know anything about WZ. The only reason I bought the record was because I thought on the cover he looked like a mad scientist/Bond villain haha there was just something that drew me to the record, which has never happened before or after so I kinda feel like it was meant to be.

Even now three years on there is so much of his music that I haven't discovered so I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's recommendations etc!!

Anyway, is a pleasure to be here. Hope everyone's having a good day :)

I'm Truly Basic...I will upload you, you can download me (that song just came up on my random play about an hour ago, it must be a sign!)

Greetings, my "real name" is Michael Wildner, although my friends refer to me as "Wildman" or the "Northern Michigan Yeti" (he's the Wild Age....). I have been a fan of WZ since I first heard the "Stand In The Fire" LP way back in the early 80's at a high school party. Got more into him when I started college, I had a housemate whose first name was "Warren" and everyone called him "Zevon", because of his obsession with the "Excitable Boy" LP. From that point on, I was hooked. I only got to see him in concert once, but it was a great show in a very intimate venue - I was right up at the stage, so close I could have grabbed his leg if I were one of those stalker types.

Fast forward to the present. I was a bassist in several unknown garage bands for about 15 years, but recently picked up the acoustic guitar and started off learning "Play It All Night Long" during a rustic camping jam session with several friends. Since then, I've managed to learn about 40+ of his songs, and I'm hungry for more. I'm self taught, and I play by ear so I'm hopeful I can figure out some of the missing songs from the Tabs section so I can contribute those. A few that have heard me play and sing say that I do a pretty great job of covering his songs, and I've thought about getting back into the local music scene as a WZ "tribute artist" - I'm kicking around the idea of going by the stage name "Excitable Roy". That won't get me in hot water here, will it? :)

In addition to WZ my other top five artists are: Neil Young, The Tragically Hip, Blue Oyster Cult and Elvis Costello.

When I'm not playing the WZ discography on my guitar, I can usually be found playing disc golf, or playing a computer game or a board game. I used to be a computer technician, and I'm currently working on programming computerized versions of military board games. I also like the great outdoors and I still prefer camping in a tent over an R.V.

I'm glad that I've found this online family and I hope to "Network" with more of you WZ acolytes soon. Happy Holidays!

Judging by your location, it's a given, isn't it, that Transverse City would be a favorite of yours?

I'm not sure it can be considered a pun or not, but I love "Excitable Roy" hahahahaha.

Hello all! I'm Joseph. I enjoy reading, writing poetry and lyrics, and playing guitar. I'm a fairly recent WZ fan, but am in absolute love with his catalog of work.
I wonder, is there a place to get official merch? Shirts and such... I'd really like to have one, but don't want to give my money to some unrelated third party not connected to The Man.
Thanks for having me, and remember to take it as prescribed! HA! ;)

Welcome!

Nope, there is no place that has "official" stuff. We're stuck with either making our own or supporting "third party" sellers.

I wish there were...

I share your wish! I guess I'll have to make one. That should be fun! I just don't really dig any of the ones I've seen around.

...wishing I had a warmer jacket...
Hello- and just now making my first post. My real name is Karen, and I was born in '53 here is good old Pennsylvania. I was waiting for my love-at-first sight man to show up for Valentine's Day and peering out the window, wondering when he would. A song came on the radio, right next to my ear, that changed my life forever. The Philly FM radio played "Excitable Boy". I stopped peering out the window and called the radio station to find out who that was, and was pulled into Warren's World forever. I finally married the guy, who never showed that night because he was having a last good-bye with his girl (also named Karen) and kind of got tangled. You know.

We were married almost 33 years and mutally enjoyed WZ until my husband passed away in 2013. When Warren left, I think he borrowed a chunk of us to take along-it sure felt that way.

So lately, a merry widow, I am hauling every CD and recording I can from Amazon, archives and vinyl...I feel strangely comforted by that voice. It is dangerously close to channeling.

Needless to say, I am so grateful to find others of the same mind. I hope to get on here some more (I am using an awkward tablet right now) and maybe get into some books and such. I write poetry- leaning toward lyrical, and do mixed media art. There is no better inspiration to me than a mega-session of Warren. No two songs are alike...but there is always that voice and that inner laugh. 8-)

My name is Steve Bolan. I'm 26 and have listened to Warren Zevon at least once a day for the past 3 years. I work an office job (cubicle affair), but am at least lucky enough to be able to listen to whatever I want all day. Through the wonder of YouTube, I was lucky enough to discover Warren Zevon. Not that I'd never heard of him, but Werewolves of London is all you're gonna hear on the radio. Which is better than nothing, but getting to hear Lawyers Guns and Money, Searching for a Heart, Worrier King, etc all for the first time in such a short span was almost literally shocking. To this day, songs of his that I've heard over and over will suddenly stand out. It just takes me a minute to take notice sometimes. I come back to the live show from Atlanta in the white t shirt and the show from the train station in Boston over and over and over again. I should be burnt out by now, but I still can't seem to get enough. I'd arrogantly thought I'd heard all there was to hear, but luckily I discovered Warren Zevon and got proven very wrong. In my mind, he's the greatest American songwriter. And if you don't agree with that, I think he's unquestionably the least appreciated.

So...I must unfortunately conclude my introduction with shameless self promotion. I am a singer songwriter myself (but aren't we all?) with a YouTube channel: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCNOgX7FJGoxNZ6K-zbKr-XA

Self taught at a very late age, I played and sang alone in my bedroom for years, until my beautiful (and much more intelligent) wife suggested that I start posting performances and covers online. She also generously helped pick out more modern, popular songs for me to cover in order to get more views. To balance out the drivel, I cover a Warren Zevon song a week in the hopes that if somebody watches my Rihanna cover, they'll follow the link to a Warren song and discover something new. I also post original songs as well. All that being said, ain't anybody watching this shit anyway, but I'm enjoying myself. I'm also able to watch and listen to myself back and get better. If anyone is at all interested in the Warren covers at the least, I'd love to hear feedback.

All that aside, I'll be sticking around for awhile hopefully, so I look forward to talking to everyone soon.
